A few days ago the Executive Board announced that David Morley had decided to step down as a Director of the club, as Deputy Chairman of this Board, and as Chairman of the Building Committee.
In accepting his resignation the club has lost from its Board and Committee a member of great skill, dedication and integrity.
David has had two terms on the Board. The first was for one year from 2002 to 2003 when he chaired the Course Consultative Committee, and, for a short period, chaired the Golf Committee.
The longer term was the more recent one for which he had now been a director for more than four years. In that time he has chaired the House Committee, the Buildings Committee and sat as a Director on the Legal and Contractual Committee.
In remembering these periods in office we should not forget his lasting contribution to the Club. When, in 2007, talks between the Club and Quinta do Lago SA ground to a halt, it was David, who, together with James Aitken, re-established communications and assisted in negotiating the details of what was to become the 2008 Contract.
He thereafter lobbied tirelessly for its acceptance by the members, always prepared to give the necessary time for often detailed explanations of the provisions of that agreement.
Since then as Chairman of the Buildings committee he has spent endless hours
planning and working through the internal building details of our new clubhouse, always keen to ensure that out of this, the members get the best clubhouse possible.
Although David has stepped down from the board, he has generously agreed to give as much time as possible to assisting in the completion of the clubhouse project.
